Journal on Education in Emergencies: Volume 6, Number 1
The Journal on Education in Emergencies aims to stimulate research and debate about education in emergencies; promote learning informed by evidence; define knowledge gaps and key trends for future research; and publish rigorous scholarly and practitioner work that will set standards for evidence in the field.
In this special issue on education and the war on drugs, we present five research articles, one field note, and two book reviews. The contributors to this issue examine the influence of the war on drugs along the continuum of drug manufacture, distribution, commerce, and consumption as experienced by students, families, educators, school officials, and policymakers.
The contributors to this issue offer new conceptual frames for understanding notions of war, crisis, and emergency, and provide robust evidence of the effects counternarcotics efforts have on students’ and families’ decision to continue pursuing an education. They offer practical insights into the study of the illicit and highlight the need for inclusive points of view to reveal the unseen effects of perpetual emergencies.
