“Where are the girls?” It’s a question that is asked too much when stepping into classrooms around the world. And the further up the school years we go, the more the question bounces around an echo chamber.

We are collectively experiencing the worst education crisis in our generation. For many vulnerable children, the likelihood of  their return to learning is questionable without targeted and intentional support at community, state and  national levels.  
 

While today -- on World Teachers’ Day -- the international community celebrates the incredible work of teachers, we must also reflect on the challenges they face and recognize our collective responsibility to provide teachers with the support they deserve. 

A joint initial reaction to the 29 September 2021 report by the High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement. The report recognises education as a key pillar for durable solutions, but it misses the opportunity to include specific recommendations on education for member states and donors.

This call to action, endorsed by 51 civil society organizations urges the governments of the G20 to commission the relevant UN agencies to develop, fund, and implement a plan to protect and promote education for Afghan children, especially girls and people with disabilities, both in Afghanistan and those who have fled their country seeking protection.

It is time to update the INEE Minimum Standards. And we are pleased to invite you to take part in this process!

Today, on the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, The Alliance and INEE are calling for increased global attention and action to prevent deliberate attacks on education and to ensure schools are safe and protective environments where all children and young people can learn and thrive without fear.

With heavy hearts, we are hearing every day from INEE members about tragic events that threaten lives, livelihoods, and the fundamental human right to education. More than ever, we stand with those whose rights are threatened and denied.

Education in Emergencies practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and teachers are invited to submit case studies about teacher programming and policies in conflict, crisis, and displacement contexts. Successful submissions will be invited to present at Teachers in Crisis Contexts Event Series webinars in October, November, and December.
