The conflict that broke out in Sudan in April 2023 severely disrupted education service delivery, resulting in the closure of all schools across the country and undermining learning opportunities for an estimated 17 million school-aged children and adolescents nationwide. Since early 2024, a gradual reopening of schools has begun alongside the proliferation of non-formal education (NFE) opportunities delivered by a wide range of actors including community groups, national and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), UN agencies, faith-based organisations, and local education authorities. While NFE has become a critical means for sustaining learning and delivering protection to children and their communities, the diversity of providers and approaches to NFE has contributed to challenges in programme reach, relevance, and quality.

أدّى النزاع الذي اندلع في السودان منذ أبريل 2023م إلى تعطّل شديد في تقديم الخدمات التعليمية، مما أسفر عن إغلاق جميع المدارس في أنحاء البلاد وتقويض فرص التعلّم لما يُقدَّر بنحو 17 مليون طفل ويافع في سنّ الدراسة على مستوى السودان (اليونيسف، 2023). ومنذ مطلع عام 2024، بدأت عملية إعادة فتح المدارس تدريجياً، بالتوازي مع توسّع فرص التعليم غير النظامي التي تقدّمها مجموعة واسعة من الجهات، بما في ذلك المجموعات المجتمعية، والمنظمات غير الحكومية الوطنية والدولية، ووكالات الأمم المتحدة، والتجمعات الدينية، والسلطات التعليمية المحلية. وفي حين أصبح التعليم غير النظامي وسيلة حاسمة لاستدامة التعلّم وتوفير الحماية للأطفال ومجتمعاتهم، فإن تنوّع الجهات المنفّذة وتباين مقاربات التعليم غير النظامي أسهما في بروز تحديات تتعلّق بجودة البرامج وملاءمتها واتساقها.

شكّل هذا النداء للتحرك جزءًا من جهد مناصرة مشترك تقوده ائتلافات واسعة من منظمات المجتمع المدني، تضامنًا مع الشعب السوداني. ويهدف إلى كسر الصمت المحيط بأزمة التعليم، وإعلاء أصوات المعلّمين والمجتمعات المحلية في السودان، وحشد دعمٍ دوليٍّ مستدام للمطالبة بتحركٍ عاجل ومنسّق يعزّز الكرامة الانسانية ويضع حدًا للحرمان المنهجي من الحق في التعليم لملايين الأشخاص في السودان  

This Call to Action was developed by a broad coalition of civil society organizations standing in solidarity with the people of Sudan. It includes a brief overview of the crisis and a list of recommended actions for a range of education actors in Sudan.

This publication synthesizes existing research on the psychological consequences of recurrent large-scale violence while emphasizing culturally rooted protective factors such as family cohesion, community solidarity, and sumud. The paper critically examines humanitarian MHPSS systems which, despite their importance, may inadvertently reproduce epistemic and operational hierarchies and marginalize local knowledge.
