Editorial Note: Journal on Education in Emergencies Volume 9, Number 1

In this preface to JEiE Volume 9, Number 1, Nathan Thompson, Samantha Colón, and Dana Burde highlight the contributions the authors featured in this issue make to EiE research and practice. In the research articles section, the contributing authors apply rigorous methodologies to practical questions in the EiE field on remedial education and social and emotional learning interventions, on factors that contribute both to dropout and to students resuming their education, and on the agency of teachers’ voices in postdisaster humanitarian guidance. In our field notes section, we feature new insights into operationalizing participatory research with refugee youths, as well as four new reflections on programmatic and policy responses to COVID-19, which comprise this issue’s Special Subsection on Education in Pandemics. Finally, the four book reviews offered in this issue discuss peacebuilding from a variety of perspectives, including citizenship, belonging, participation in social movements, and representation in educational materials, especially textbooks.
