Education and Conflict

This study provides an excellent overview of the literatures on education in emergency situations, post-war educational reconstruction, and peace education. It continues the debate launched several years ago within the German development cooperation community on promoting basic education in the context of peace-building, crisis prevention and conflict transformation. The study provides sound recommendations for the tasks ahead for GTZ such as bringing together national and international network, reinforce the crisis resistance and adaptability of educational facilities, develop and implement concepts for complex and adapted education intervention in emergency situations and under crisis conditions, "mainstreaming conflict", utilize peace education concepts for crisis-preventive education assistance, and develop and implement instruments and processes for conflict analysis and conflict impact analysis for the education sector.
