October 11 is International Day of the Girl!
In celebration, many INEE partners have planned events to advocate for increased awareness of gender inequality in education and to promote gender-responsive education. Below are listed, in chronological order, a few events that are relevant to gender equity, girls’ education, and education in emergencies around International Day of the Girl. International Day of the Girl Roundtable: Inclusive Education and Adolescent Girls

Join FHI 360 for a roundtable with leaders from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Bank and Leonard Cheshire to honor the International Day of the Girl. Speakers from around the world and attendees will explore the intersection of gender equality and inclusive education. Adolescent girls with disabilities are one of the most marginalized and excluded groups of learners worldwide. This roundtable will show that — with the right approaches — adolescents with disabilities, especially girls, can have access to education, be safe, and learn.

European Week of Action for Girls
10-15 October, 2022
The European Week of Action for Girls (EWAG) is an annual event organised by a coalition of Civil Society Organisations to mark the International Day of the Girl. Since 2012, EWAG has been pushing for the rights of girls to be better protected and championed by the EU, in particular through its external action.
EWAG is all about giving space to young advocates to bring their voices to EU decision-makers and help shape a better world for all girls. Through a series of policy, advocacy and campaign activities, EWAG partners and the young advocates will push the EU to abide by its commitments for gender equality and the protection of girls. This means doing more, investing responsibly, and recognising the active role girls play in their communities and societies.

Join us on 11 October, as we amplify young women and girls’ voices through a girl-led IDG virtual event titled; ‘GIRLS’ AGENCY: IN THEIR OWN WORDS!’ - a platform for girls from all over the world to showcase their agency and speak out about the barriers they face and why we should invest in girls’ agency. Co-created by girls, the virtual event will constitute a panel discussion and a storytelling session where girls will share powerful stories of change, resilience, and impact.

La conférence sera axée sur l'éducation de la fille handicapée et les sujets connexes comme la violence, la santé de la reproduction et la pauvreté.

Global Objectives on Girls’ Education, Baseline Report

Under the UK’s 2021 G7 Presidency, G7 endorsement was secured, to two global girls' education access and learning objectives, intended to be milestone targets to SDG4. The G7 called on the rest of the international community to rally behind them: 40 million more girls in school; and 20 million more girls reading by age 10 or the end of primary school, in low and lower middle-income countries, by 2026. The UK committed to producing an annual progress report against the two global objectives. The report aims to supplement the efforts of the G7 Accountability Working Group, which monitors progress against G7 commitments by presenting evidence on low- and lower-middle-income countries’ progress in achieving the two global objectives and highlighting what remains to be done.
This event is the formal launch of the first annual progress report, which serves as a baseline report. The Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report), UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and UN Girls’ Education Initiative have authored this first report.
