This report documents abuses that women and girls experienced when schools were attacked in the Kasais, focusing specifically on Kasai Central province, where the conflict originated and where the largest number of schools were attacked. This research is part of a multi-country study on the impact of attacks on education on women and girls.

Conflict makes life harder for children with disabilities. It also creates new ones. That's why our humanitarian work supports all children, including those with disabilities.

This report covers the five-year period from January 2013 to December 2017. The previous edition included profiles of 30 countries that had experienced at least five incidents of attacks on education in which students or education personnel were harmed, including at least one direct attack or one person killed, between 2009 and mid-2013.

The 106-page report is based on interviews with 119 victims and eyewitnesses of attacks on schools and education, including survivors of the three largest school abductions in Nigeria: Chibok (April 2014), Damasak (November 2014), and Dapchi (February 2018)

This briefing paper addresses the progress that Afghanistan had made since 2001 on increasing access to education for Afghani children, and how due to ongoing conflict, increasing insecurity and attacks on education, there has been a reversal in this progress since 2018. 

This guidance is intended to support education authorities and disaster management officers to make decisions and allocate resources to meet shelter needs of the population, to protect children’s rights to safety and wellbeing, educational continuity, and to protect education sector investments.

This field note explores a little-known footnote in the history of the U.S. military occupation in Iraq. In mid-2007 the author documented the beginnings of a school designed and operated by the U.S. military in Iraq. Every aspect of this school was conditioned by its singular context: to educate Iraqi juveniles captured in war.

Crises, conflict and displacement lead to heightened insecurities – physical, psychological, social and financial -- for affected populations including refugees. The breakdown of family and community support systems and high levels of stress and trauma magnify pre-existing levels of violence and conflict within families and in schools.
