This policy brief highlights findings from the ERICC formative research study titled ‘Access and continuity of quality education for older adolescent boys and girls in the refugee camp and host community of Cox’s Bazar’.

This policy brief draws from the findings of a comprehensive Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Crisis (ERICC) research study titled “Formative research on system coherence for quality and effective delivery of the Myanmar Curriculum in Cox’s Bazar”

Together, the panelists engaged in discussion about connections and learnings across contexts. These presentations, ranging from global evidence reviews to comparative longitudinal studies, aimed to create a more cohesive understanding of the latest research in refugee inclusion, with the aim to move the EiE sector forward through specific takeaways for policy and practice. 

The policy brief describes the substantive, methodological and geographic scope of existing evidence on refugee student access to national education systems (NES). It then presents findings about six global-, regional- and national-level enabling factors and constraints for refugee student access to NES.

The 2024 UNHCR Refugee Education Report draws on data from more than 65 countries worldwide to provide the most detailed picture yet of the state of refugee education and enrolment. The report reflects on the 2030 Refugee Education Strategy (launched in 2019) and where notable progress has been made as well as areas where greater investment and enhanced collaboration are needed to meet the strategic objectives of the Strategy.

This document outlined areas for alignment with the global and national architecture, key issues for consideration, and concepts and approaches related to the pledge development process. The pledging framework encouraged stakeholders to align their commitments with host country policies, the Transforming Education Summit Calls to Action, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

This report provides an in-depth analysis of the knowledge production landscape in the field of refugee education, critically exploring how it continues to be shaped by colonial legacies and dominated by global north (GN) perspectives.

El presente informe, elaborado por Save the Children en alianza con HIAS y financiado por ECHO, expone las principales lecciones aprendidas del proyecto Ruta Educativa, que ha tenido como zonas de intervención México, Panamá, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras y El Salvador. El objetivo del proyecto ha sido contribuir a reducir las barreras de acceso a la educación de niños, niñas, adolescentes y familias en movimiento en las rutas migratorias centroamericanas, y en el marco del mismo se ha creado un paquete metodológico que contiene una herramienta de evaluación “HALDO on the move” (Holistic Assessment of Learning and Development Outcomes) que permite a los diferentes actores humanitarios evaluar rápidamente el nivel educativo de los niños, niñas y adolescentes y registrar sus datos en una plataforma con el fin de ofrecer una respuesta de educación en emergencias adaptada a las necesidades de aprendizaje reales, así como lograr una mayor coordinación para promover la continuidad educativa a lo largo de la ruta.

In this study, I seek to understand how families participate in refugee children’s education in displacement. Drawing on interviews with 16 refugee parents and caregivers living in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, I find that caregivers actively engage in their children’s schooling.
