The objective of the assessment is to provide a common understanding of the impact of the crises on education and child protection needs in NW Syria, enabling the production of recommendations for informed operational strategies and decisions. 

This report documents abuses that women and girls experienced when schools were attacked in the Kasais, focusing specifically on Kasai Central province, where the conflict originated and where the largest number of schools were attacked. This research is part of a multi-country study on the impact of attacks on education on women and girls.

The seeds of this publication were planted in October 1992, in a special discussion on children and armed conflict initiated by the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The following year, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the Secretary-General to appoint an independent expert to lead a study on the impact of armed conflict on children.

This paper explores the extent to which post-primary education options are being financed, what approaches are being taken and the opportunities and challenges for supporting post-primary education in the future.

Rights from the Start is intended to highlight a truth that should be uncontroversial: that every person is entitled to the right to care and education from birth. However, the shocking fact remains that 200 million children do not receive these rights at all: the report examines government planning and budgets (including donor assistance) to show that many do not prioritise or even include early childhood in the education or national strategies.

In 2008, UNICEF, together with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Education and the national Teacher Training institutions, developed a behaviour change programme for teachers entitled “Emerging Issues.”

This case study focuses on the school completion of girls in primary education in public schools at the ages of 6–14. The research focuses on the population at large for the school period of 2014–2018. Based on the data and using the pathways of the decision tree, the analysis found that the war led to decreased enrolment rates and completion rates

This technical note synthesizes information on UNICEF’s approach to MHPSS, and references existing MHPSS operational guidance and standards that are detailed across sectors.

By reflecting on our experiences working with a group of educators serving displaced and refugee learners and by reviewing the open access offers provided by large, international organisations, we identify limitations among existing solutions, many of which are not fully responsive to the needs of teachers in low-resource contexts who might be looking for professional development opportunities.
