Joint communiqué of the G7 Ministers of Education and International Development
On the 4th and 5th of July 2019, the G7 Development and Education Ministers met in Paris. These meetings, in preparation for the Biarritz Summit, drew on the expertise of international organizations and the presence of representatives from non G7 member states and civil society, in line with the desire of the French G7 Presidency to open up the G7.
For the first time ever, G7 Development Ministers and Education ministers met for a joint work day at UNESCO on the 5th of July 2019. There, the lead UN agency for education and the G7 Ministers worked to reaffirm their commitment to SDG 4, the goal of quality education for all.
The fight against inequality, particularly in Africa, was tackled from two standpoints: education for girls and technical and vocational training.
The following document illustrates the points made at this meeting, in regards to tackling inequality in developing countries through gender-responsive education and quality technical and vocational education and training.
