Increasing Knowledge and Awareness about Gender
This tool provides 28 sample exercises that teachers/facilitators can use to help young better understand what gender is and how it affects their lives. The activities aim to achieve the following learning objectives: 1) Improve understanding of what gender means, and of the difference between gender and sex; 2) Increase young peoples awareness of gender roles and attitudes; 3) Help young people to think about how gender roles and stereotypes are created; and 4) Explore the impact of gender on young peoples lives, especially their ideas about sex and relationships and expectations about their sexual behaviour. Two Fact Sheets, entitled The Rights of Young People and Sex and Sexuality, are provided to support the activities.
