2014 was a busy year for the education in emergencies community, and INEE continued to carry out its mission of bringing together humanitarian and development actors, policymakers, researchers, donors, and individuals to ensure the right to education for all learners affected by crisis.
In 2013, we have witnessed with sadness the emergence of new crises and natural disasters, as well as the intensification of ongoing emergency situations. Given these demands, INEE has worked diligently to raise the response for education in emergencies through advocacy, information, tools and technical assistance needed by practitioners in such difficult contexts.
2012 brought disruptions in education around the world: a major earthquake in Iran, Typhoon Bopha in the Philippines, the ongoing conflict and displacement in and around Syria, a war in Mali, famine in the wider Sahel and Hurricane Sandy bringing destruction to the Caribbean and the northeast United States, are only a few examples.
INEE celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2011! Along the way, INEE has grown from a handful of dedicated people to a network of over 7,000 members in over 170 countries.
Throughout its tenth year, INEE has continued to push for increasing recognition of the critical role that education in emergencies plays for social, political and economic stabilisation and development.
