The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched its annual report on the state of education around the world, focusing for the first time on the theme of migration and displacement. It finds that the numbers of migrant and refugee school-age children have grown by 26% since the beginning of the new millennium.

SDG target 4.5 calls for ensuring equal access to education for the vulnerable. This target is measured by SDG indicator 4.5.1, on parity related to education of people affected by conflict, among other groups for which data can be disaggregated.
