Disaster Risk Reduction and Children's Rights to Education and Safety

This paper was presented at Third International Conference on Human Rights and Peace & Conflict in South East Asia Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Disasters represent a major humanitarian concern with increasing regularity and intensity due to climate change. Children are one of the most vulnerable groups during a disaster and new challenges arise for at-risk countries to guarantee children their inalienable rights. Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines has again brought these challenges into focus.
