Study on Governance Challenges for Education in Fragile Situations: Study Synthesis Report

The European Commission (EC)- a member of the INEE Working Group on Education and Fragility- has recently released a far-reaching study entitled "Study on Governance Challenges for Education in Fragile Situations." The overall purpose of the Study was to better understand key governance challenges facing education in different fragile situations, and highlight implications and make recommendations for external support to the education sector. The case studies - Aceh (Indonesia), Cambodia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Lebanon, Liberia, Somalia and Southern Sudan were selected to provide a range of fragility and post-fragility contexts. The purpose of this report is to bring together some of the key findings, lessons learned and conclusions from the eight country study reports in order to contribute to future thinking regarding education aid planning, programming, implementation and monitoring in fragile situations. In this context, it is hoped that readers will find the Synthesis Report a useful contribution to ongoing debates in this field.
