[Crisis Spotlight] Protecting the Right to Education in Sudan
On 17 February, 2026, the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), Global Campaign for Education, Sudan Education Cluster, Arab Campaign for Education for All, and Sudanese Coalition for Education for All held a webinar on education in Sudan.
Sudan is experiencing one of the world’s largest and most under-reported education crises. Since the escalation of conflict in April 2023, the country has witnessed mass displacement, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and the near-total collapse of basic services—including education. Entire communities have been uprooted, with schools damaged or converted into shelters, while millions of children have been cut off from learning.
There is an urgent need to spotlight the scale of the violation of the right to education in Sudan. Despite the severity of the crisis, Sudan receives limited global attention and insufficient international advocacy. Educational needs remain immense, while local educators continue to show extraordinary resilience—often teaching in improvised spaces and displacement sites. This webinar aimed to break the silence, amplify the voices of Sudanese educators, and bring global attention to the ongoing denial of education for millions of children.
This web event was conducted in Arabic with English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese interpretation.
