Disaster risk reduction (DRR) Comprehensive School Safety: An imperative for Education Policy-makers

Children have the right to be both safe and secure in school, and to be assured of educational continuity, even in the face of disasters and emergencies. Disasters are occurring at alarming frequency and with increased severity in Asia-Pacific. Along with climate change related crises, disasters create humanitarian and development challenges. The education sector has a key role to play in addressing these challenges and in preventing hazards from becoming disasters. This role is best fulfilled through a comprehensive approach to school safety.
