Distress

Refers to experiencing difficult emotions or feelings that are severe enough to affect day-to-day functioning and ability to participate in social interactions. Psychosocial distress can result in negative views of the environment, of others, and of one's self. Sadness, anxiety, distraction, disruption in relationships with others, and some symptoms of mental illness are manifestations of psychological distress.
