Adaptation

The adjustment in natural or human systems in response to actual or expected climatic stimuli or their effects, which moderates harm or exploits beneficial opportunities, is known as adaptation. The broader concept of adaptation also applies to non-climatic factors such as soil erosion or surface subsidence. Adaptation can occur in an autonomous fashion, for example, through market changes or as a result of intentional adaptation policies and plans. Many disaster risk reduction measures can directly contribute to better adaptation.
