Attacks on Education - Protecting Education from Attack

The Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) was established in 2010 by organizations from the fields of education in emergencies and conflict-affected fragile states, higher education, protection, international human rights, and international humanitarian law who were concerned about on-going attacks on educational institutions, their students, and staff in countries affected by conflict and insecurity.

The GCPEA website provides a periodic report with data on physical attacks on education globally.  Data include attacks on schools, students, and staff; the military use of schools; the recruitment of children by the parties to conflict; and sexual violence.

These data can help inform planning, policymaking, and advocacy to create safer educational systems and to pressure parties to conflicts to adhere to international laws regarding the protection of civilians and education in times of conflict. The data are provided as global and national reports. The flagship report is released every several years while other specific reports are released more regularly.
