Education in Emergencies: A community’s need, a child’s right

The WHS Regional Consultation for East and Southern Africa presents an opportunity to reflect on emergencies throughout the region and ensure that lessons are incorporated into a more effective, accountable and innovative humanitarian system; one capable of supporting communities to overcome crises and protect and promote human rights. In contrast to other regions, the proportion of children and youth as a share of the total population across Africa is growing significantly, so the humanitarian system in the region must take their needs and priorities into account. Save the Children (SCI) recognises the crucial role that children and youth must hold in this process and as such have conducted a series of consultations in four countries across in East Africa - Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya - with children, youth and wider communities in emergency settings
