This story was collected as part of INEE's 20th Anniversary commemoration to highlight how education in the midst of crisis and upheaval has made a difference for our members and those they work with (learners, youth, teachers, caregivers, etc.). For more stories, click here.

Cleopatra Chipuriro, Afghanistan ENG (1:24) on the value of INEE, for the INEE 20th Anniversary, November 2020.

Happy 20th Anniversary to all of us who are part of this powerful movement INEE! My name is Cleopatra Chipuriro and I am currently working as an Education Cluster Coordinator in Afghanistan.

How did my journey begin? Rachel McKinnie and James Sparks are the ones who introduced me to INEE in 2008, seems like a lifetime ago and I am so grateful.

Back then I had no idea what education in emergencies was and what my contribution was supposed to be. Fast forward a couple of years later, here I am. A seasoned EiE person who has participated in the contextualization of minimum standards for a few countries.
INEE is very dear to me, the resources available to anyone wanting to learn anything around education in Emergency are amazing! The coordinators are super responsive (not to mention I was once one of those coordinators) and if you are looking to advance your career in EiE, that a good place to start to look for opportunities….

I am proud to be a member of this movement where I have learnt from not only the founding members but the up and coming generation. In these challenging times where EiE practitioners are having to explore new ways of working, we can certainly count on INEE to provide us with the information we need to tackle the challenges.

Happy 20th Anniversary!
