Martin Villarroel García

Martín has been the INEE Country Focal Point for Bolivia since 2022 and an INEE member since 2014. He is an Agronomist Engineer with a diploma in higher education, inclusive education spaces, resilient cities and in agroecology. Currently, he is an international consultant in environmental management, disaster risk reduction management, and humanitarian standards. He is also a professor at both Universidad Católica Boliviana and Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS). Since 2002, Martin has been a leader in the dissemination and training of trainers on Sphere Standards, INEE Minimum Standards, and Child Protection in Emergencies in 18 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Sphere network as well as its Bolivian Focal Point. He contributes to the application of the Principles of Protection and the Core Humanitarian Standards in projects related to preparation, humanitarian response and recovery related to safe schools, feedback and complaint mechanisms, attention to vulnerable groups, and containment and response to COVID-19. He is a member of the Education Roundtable on Risk Management (MEGERI), led by the Ministry of Education and co-chaired by the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense, and an Affiliate Member of the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR). 

Previously, Martin was the Director of the Agro-bioenergy Assistance Program to Farmers (Bolivia); Regional Emergency Coordinator for Save the Children Canada in which he promoted preparedness, response, and recovery actions in 12 countries of the LAC Region; Consultant on new business development for the Christian Children's Fund of Canada (Paraguay) and Coordinator of the "Safe Educational Communities" Project for ADRA Argentina. Martin is Bolivian and speaks Spanish, Quechua, Portuguese and English.
